The 19th edition of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) will change the life of 32 gold and diamond jewellery buyers. The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group on Monday announced its mega promotion, with prizes worth Dh6 million, including 32kg gold and 32 diamond solitaire rings, to be won through raffle draws.

The group also launched a commemorative Expo2020 Host City Dubai gold coin for the forthcoming DSF to celebrate the city’s successful bid to host the World Expo 2020. The 32-day mega shopping festival will start from January 2, 2014 under the theme ‘Shop at Your Best’.
The special edition Expo 2020 gold coin was unveiled by Laila Mohammed Suhail, chief executive officer of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE) at a news conference. The price of the gold coin will be capped at January 1, 2014 price till the last day of DSF.
“We are taking the risk for 32 days by selling the Expo2020 coin of 4 grams at a fixed price that would be around Dh600 and one raffle coupon will be given away on the purchase of each coin during the DSF,” Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group vice-chairman, Chandu Siroya, told Khaleej Times after the news conference.
Last year, the group also launched a commemorative Expo2020 coin as a candidate city and sold more than 10,000 coins, Siroya said, adding: “This year we hope to sell more than 30,000 coins on the back of a big 32kg gold prize promotion.” More than 700kg of gold had been given away since the launch of DSF in 1996, he added.
He mentioned that the group is promoting Dubai as a jewellery destination, as the emirate offers one of the best designs and price in the world. Responding to a question on why Dubai is truly a ‘City of Gold’, he said, “Because of the negligible customs duty and safe and secure environment for all stakeholders.”
During the forthcoming DSF, shoppers will be given the chance to win a kilo of gold and a diamond solitaire ring every day during the festival. Shoppers purchasing gold jewellery worth Dh500 at any participating outlet in the city will be entitled to one raffle coupon for the daily draw.
Further, shoppers who purchase diamond jewellery, pearls or watches worth Dh500 can increase their chances of winning the daily prizes, as they will get two raffle coupons. Over 300 jewellery retail outlets across Dubai will participate in the campaign.
After unveiling the Expo2020 gold coin for DSF 2014, Laila Suhail said: “The gold and jewellery trade has been a cornerstone of Dubai’s retail sector and a key component of the winning element offered by Dubai Shopping Festival every year, as evident by this amazing gold promotion. As the DSF 2014 is the first major event since the successful Expo 2020 bid,  this excellent initiative by the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group to offer specially minted EXPO 2020 Host City Dubai gold coins is timely and yet another sign of the strong collaboration between the government sector and private sector.”
Addressing the press conference, Sunny Chittilappilly, chairman of Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group, said: “The mega jewellery promotion campaign will strengthen our 19-year-old partnership with Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment. Since the launch of both DSF and Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group in 1996, both have been complimenting the growth of each other while offering the best value to shoppers during the DSF.”
The Gold and Jewellery Group is a key sponsor of the gold and jewellery campaign, which is supported by Joyalukkas, Malabar Gold and Diamonds, Kalyan Jewellers, Sky Jewellery, Meena Jewellers, Atlas, Al Haseena Jewellers, Chittillappilly Jewellers, and La Marquise Diamonds & Watches.
